My Approach
I usually work alone for straight writing assignments but have other talented resources to bring to the work if the job expands to require art direction or production. Once we have agreed on the assignment, its scope, contact details and cost, the gathering of important information can begin before the actual writing starts.
Agreement on the target(s), what they currently believe, what we would like to have them believe, what we think could make that transition (or reinforcement) possible, settling on an appropriate tone of voice and how we will determine the success of the effort are important first steps.
For the creation or confirmation of Core Documents, existing expressions will be reviewed and all appropriate interviews conducted with senior staff. Existing research (if any) will also be assessed.
A single point of contact and approval is always welcome, but I understand the reality and sometimes desirability of broader inclusion. I have worked on writing assignments for “approval” groups of as many as two dozen (and actually got something approved).
I am happy to work with companies huge or small. The principles are all the same and the documents required equally important.
