Humbly, I would like to suggest that I bring an unusual and very useful array of background experiences in the creation of written marketing content to you at this moment.

  • As an MBA honor graduate of the Columbia University Graduate School of Business, I believe I bring a perspective to your business that many other freelance writers might not. I spent a decades long career managing businesses, while doing much writing in the process. I think I understand the practice of good business writing in concert with the fundamentals that underlie the business itself;

  • My first “paid” writing assignment was as a brand new Ensign in the US Navy, sent to an intense two month journalism school, then placed as Public Affairs Officer on an aircraft carrier. I oversaw a small team of journalists and together we published a newspaper every night, wrote a monthly magazine and a letter home from our Commanding Officer each month, all while running the ship’s TV and radio stations and providing HQ written summaries each night of the ship’s wartime operations;

  • As I started my career, I learned the skill of business writing working with Procter & Gamble, the standard of effective communication in the competitive world of packaged goods marketing. I will always be in their debt for the lessons learned;

  • My career evolved to greater concentration in healthcare and wellness businesses, with the added challenge of making often complex information approachable for the average person.

  • I founded a stand alone company within a major Holding Group dedicated to bringing the imagination and creativity of other consumer categories to healthcare communications. It worked. Revenues doubled in just three years as we attracted clients like Johnson & Johnson, Novartis and Memorial Sloan Kettering;

  • I left this company to my partners and started a nutritional/exercise company as an on-site service nested in a doctor’s office; many lives were turned around. I was personally responsible for every written word that related to that organization;

  • Ten years ago, I began to offer my services as a freelance marketing and writing consultant. In this role, I have done everything from the creation or improvement of a company’s core documents (Vision and Mission Statements, articulation of the Corporate Culture), to the building of insightful Creative Strategies to guide communication, all the way to the execution of these strategies;

  • I love writing brand or company slogans (which I prefer to call “Brand Expressions”), not only because it is fun to generate those ideas but also to know that a well crafted expression could last a lifetime.
